Thank you for taking an interest in my artwork. A self-taught artist from Sydney, Australia, my work is a fusion of surrealism, realism and fantasy, with a dollop of frivolity added for good measure.
Despite being interested in art from an early age, after finishing high school I abandoned art for science, dabbling in drawing only occasionally and without serious intent. After completing a biology degree and a master's degree in wildlife ecology, I returned to art, adopting acrylic paints as my primary medium. Art is a hobby for me rather than a career. My regular job is developing government policy for threatened species and national parks, as well as conservation grants and similar projects.
I always have far more art ideas than I know what to do with, many of which hit me in the middle of the night. I'm generally more interested in the concept behind my work as opposed to its purely technical aspects, though as my own worst critic I strive for continual improvement, both technically and conceptually. Being a Catholic, some of my art is inspired by Bible readings or general Christian themes. Additionally, my university studies have strongly influenced my work, which is filled with unusual plants and animals, insects and microbes. Inspiration is also drawn from frequent trips to national parks.
Aside from art, I enjoy bushwalking (hiking), birdwatching, volunteer bushland regeneration and other outdoor activities, cooking, reading and the occasional video game. I'm also an enthusiastic cyclist and cycle to work each day.
I hope you enjoy my work. Thanks for visiting!
