Waning Tide
Details: 2010, acrylic on acid-free matboard, 43.5 x 57 cm. You may also view a close-up of this artwork (1.65 MB).
Description: Archelon was the largest sea turtle ever known, rivaling the size of a small car. Archelon lived between 75-65 million years ago and disappeared from the fossil record at the end of the Cretaceous. Its distinctive features were a pronounced overbite, and a domed shell rather than the flatter shells of modern sea turtles.

This painting was my contribution to the RARE: 2011 Anthro animal calendar, which featured artwork of extinct species such as the Thylacine, dodo, wooly mammoth and quagga.
